Upper and lower lids are different
Upper-lid surgery may address excess skin. Lower-lid concerns can involve fat, skin and support. Brow position can also change the apparent heaviness of the upper lids. An examination is needed to identify the cause rather than treating every concern in the same way.
Protecting eye function
Tell the surgeon about dry eyes, thyroid conditions, eye surgery, contact lenses and medicines. The discussion should cover how the lids close and support the eye. A separate eye assessment may be appropriate when symptoms or examination findings need clarification.
Recovery and warning signs
Swelling and bruising can affect early appearance. Follow the prescribed eye-care instructions and review schedule.
